Lynne North
Lynne North lives in a countryside area in the North West of England. She has a lifetime love of books and reading, and always longed to have a book published. Her first children’s fantasy, ‘Caution: Witch in Progress’ was launched at Earls Court Book Fair in 2013.
Lynne is now delighted to be an author and Marketing Director for Crimson Cloak Publishing. Her novel ‘Be Careful What You Wish For’ was released on St. Patrick’s Day 2016. ‘Caution: Witch in Progress’ was rereleased, and ‘Zac’s Destiny’ also released later in 2016. Lynne has since written a short children’s fantasy, two role play game books, and a book of macabre short stories, ‘Unlucky For Some’ definitely not for children! A companion guide to ‘Caution: Witch in Progress, ‘Gertie’s Guide to Nature’s Cures’ was released in 2019, and a series of illustrated astrology books for children, one for each sign, is currently being produced. Aries, Taurus & Gemini are out already in 2020!
Lynne has taken early retirement from a full time job as a data analyst to dedicate herself to her first love, writing.

Caution: Witch in Progress
Gertie Grimthorpe is born into a society of witches and grows up in Vile Vale, but there is something very wrong with her … she is beautiful and couldn’t be nasty if she tried.
When she finds out that she is to attend a private academy for magical children, Gertie hopes to find her witchy way in the world.
With a moat monster suffering from stomach ache, a short-sighted owl familiar, and mishaps galore, Gertie’s adventures are hilarious and heartwarming.
Join Gertie as she struggles with growing up (and longing to grow her first wart), learning magic and working out how to deal with a grumpy enchanted umbrella, named Bat.
Quote by Piers Anthony
This is a children’s fantasy featuring Gertie, born into a witch family, who doesn’t show signs of being witchy. That’s awkward. Finally they send her off to witch’s school and she loves it. Her best friend there loves to eat, and Gertie’s studying ways tend to alienate her from classmates. One show-off summons a demon he then doesn’t know how to banish, and the demon has an ugly attitude. Some demons are like that. But in the end Gertie comes through with one of those surprises that makes perfect sense in retrospect. It’s interesting and fun, and its age-level should like it.
5 star review from Amazon USA for Caution: Witch in Progress –
A book for all ages and families. An unusual witch perseveres with her desire to be a full-fledged witch, and ultimately outperforms her worst critics. Think the Ugly Duckling, Harry Potter and Wicked.
Reviewed by Anne Boling for Readers’ Favorite:
In Caution: Witch in Progress by Lynne North, we meet Gertie who comes from a long line of witches, the kind with a wart on the end of their crooked nose. However, Gertie’s appearance is a bit of a disappointment; her nose is straight without any signs of a wart, her skin is a normal healthy color and she was not born with sharp pointy teeth. The residents of Vile Vale are all witches and warlocks and they were shocked to see a “normal” child in their midst.
Gertie is a pleasant, loving child with great compassion for others, including toads. When Gertie goes to a special private school for supernatural children, she meets some very odd characters: a talking grouchy umbrella named Bat, a toad named Wart, an owl with eye problems, and a monster with a tummy ache. Gertie doesn’t fit in very well with the other students but does make one friend, Bertha. Gertie has all the qualities humans could possibly want in their child: beauty, kindness, and compassion. She isn’t very good at casting spells, which is tough when you are a witch.
I absolutely love this tale. Gertie is a character with personality that jumps off the page. Readers will find they are laughing out loud at some of the antics. Caution: Witch in Progress by Lynne North is a tale about growing up. Poor Gertie faces the same situations that children face every day, the struggle to fit in. I can easily see this becoming a popular series. I hope the author will expand this idea into a whole series of books, movies, and toys.
Gertie’s Guide to Nature’s Cures.

Zac’s Destiny
A Sword-and-Sorcery novel for children
Zac is a fifteen year old stable boy whose life is turned upside down when he finds himself in the midst of demons, magic and a perilous quest. The land around Albemerle castle is under attack, and the only hope of survival for Zac and the people he loves is to find the great wizard, Aldric.
Men have already died trying.
Strange dreams mark the beginning of Zac’s life changing events. Armed with a magic sword, ring and crystal, he sets out with a group of soldiers to find Aldric. Demon attack almost ends Zac’s quest as soon as it begins.
Zac refuses to give up, and soon finds himself accompanied by unusual travelling companions. Many dangers bar their way. Only Zac’s determination and the unexpected help he receives can make it possible to find and free Aldric, and return for the final battle to save the land.
Quote by Piers Anthony
I read Zac’s Destiny, by Lynne North, a children’s fantasy, straightforward, easy to read, the story stepping right along. Young Zac is a stable boy who dreams he must go to the Baron and ask to see the casket of Aldric, the sorcerer who has mysteriously disappeared just as the enemy is invading the kingdom. He does, and it opens for him as it does for no one else, and he gains a sword named Solstice that only he can wield, a glass ball, and a silver ring. They are magical, of course, but the nature of their charms is not immediately apparent. With these Zac must set forth to find and rescue Aldric. His friend Beth, a girl his age, joins him, and they are off on an adventure that soon turns brutal. Gradually the properties of the magic items become evident, and with the help of companions they meet along the way they labor to fulfill their destiny. Standard as it is in outline, it’s well done and gripping as Zac learns things he never dreamed of. Of course they save the kingdom, but it’s the manner of it that counts. I think if I were a child I’d find this hard to put down, and even as a cynical old man I found it compelling.
Be Careful What You Wish For
Finn is a bored young leprechaun. He lives with his mum and dad in a small village named Duntappin, and goes to the local school there. He spends most of his free time with his best friend Dallan, but craves some excitement in his life. Unfortunately, Finn missed out on being blessed by the Good Luck Fairy and soon gets far more than he bargained for. He finds himself a long way from home in the hands of a travelling circus where he is little more than a ‘freak’ to amuse the customers.
Quote by Piers Anthony
“I read Be Careful What You Wish For, by Lynne North. This is a young folk’s novel featuring the young leprechaun Finn, who wishes for some great adventure instead of the rather dull and error-prone life he leads. Then he gets it, but not the way he wants: he gets kidnapped by a mean carnival freak show human man and put on display in a cage. Now he wishes for his old dull life back. A child should identify with the child-sized leprechaun and appreciate the kind-hearted incidental characters.”
Emily and the Enchanted Wood
Emily lives in the quiet village of Oak Haven with her Mum, Dad and her lovely dog, Toby. Her life is a happy and peaceful one, but there is more to Emily than meets the eye. The young girl has a very strong connection with animals, one that becomes even more apparent when she enters the wood that lies just outside the village. Strange things happen in the wood, and Emily isn’t convinced whether the wood has magical powers, or even if she herself has special abilities. Whatever the reason, life is never quite the same when she is there.
Emily’s problems really begin when she discovers that goblins have come to her precious wood. They are making the woodland creatures’ lives a misery, and seem intent on staying.
Not if Emily can help it…
And now for something completely different! This next book is definitely NOT for children…
